IABC holds to a complementarian view when it comes to roles within the church and ministry. We believe scripture teaches women and men are equal before the Lord (Genesis 1:27, 1 Peter 3:7), but also believe that scripture gives us distinctive roles as men and women in the home, church, and wider society. (1 Timothy 2:12, 1 Corinthians 14:33-36). Therefore, IABC does not seek to certify biblical counselors who do not uphold this view.

In an ever changing day of terms associated with the integration of psychology into the counseling arena, IABC recognizes these new terms as Psychology Integrated Counseling: Trauma Informed and Clinically Aware.

IABC is commited to the sufficiency of Scripture rather than Integrated Counseling; therefore, counselors commited to the sufficiency of Scripture are the counselors we seek to certify.

Statement Summary: We are counseling leaders, scholars, authors, practitioners, and pastors who are profoundly concerned about current debates within the biblical counseling movement. Our primary goal is to honor Jesus Christ, who has revealed Himself and His will for our lives in the pages of His authoritative and sufficient Word. We are committed to helping God's people who struggle with sin and suffering by equipping them with the pure milk of God's Word. In that spirit we address the current conflict and seek to clarify the confusion surrounding the doctrines of the sufficiency of Scripture and common grace. The recent mischaracterizations of these doctrines, whether intentional or not, threaten to lead many astray...
